Spring in Boston is a grand time for sightseeing. Boston is known world wide for its sporting events and here are two great sightseeing events to check out on your next trip.
1. THE BOSTON MARATHON – THE WORLD’S OLDEST ANNUAL MARATHON

Inspired by the 1896 summer olympics, the first Boston race was held in 1897, and has been running ever since. The race is one of Boston’s most popular events and one of the five World Marathon major races. Each year the race grows in attendance – the first race had 18 participants and last year the 2011 race had 26,895 participants. The starting point is on Rt 35 in Hopinkington, then travels thru Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, Brookline, and finally concludes in Boston center.
A few great viewing areas for the race are around miles two, three and four. Some well known areas are in Ashland on Rt 135 around the Ashland State park, in Wellsely (around mile 12) around the downtown business district and Wesselsey College, which is a lively spot with a great goup of well wishers, and don’t miss Hanover park on the hill in Wellesley. Other popular viewing areas are in Newton on Heartbeak Hill, and at Kenmore Square where you will be met with the fans exiting the home RED SOX Game which is played early every year to coincide with the race.The finish line is on Boylston Street in Boston.

2. Tour the home of the Red Sox!
